About Habitat ReStores

A Brief History of the ReStore movement

The first Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened in Austin, TX in 1992. Habitat for Humanity affiliates had started to get numerous donations of items that donors wanted to have used in the building of Habitat for Humanity homes. For different reasons, not all donations could be used that way, but we looked for a way to use those items to help our great cause. So the idea of selling new and gently used home improvement goods with the funds going to benefit HFH was born.

ReStores are independently owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities and around the world.

Why help fund our ReStore?

Donating to the Habitat Bergen ReStore will help ensure affordable housing for numerous families and individuals in Bergen County. Donations to our ReStore are also a good deal for you, your community and the environment.

We're open to the public

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit thrift shop-style home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price. All ReStore proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity’s mission to provide housing in local communities.
