About Habitat for Humanity Bergen ReStore

A good deal for you, your community and the environment.

We're Open to the Public

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit thrift shop-styled home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price.

All ReStore proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity

ReStores are independently owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities and around the world.

A Brief History of the ReStore movement

The first HFH ReStore opened in Austin, TX in 1992. HFH affiliates had started to get numerous donations of items that donors wanted to have used in the building of HFH homes. For different reasons, not all donations could be used that way, but we looked for a way to use those items to help our great cause. So the idea of selling new and gently used home improvement goods with the funds going to benefit HFH was born.

Why help fund the ReStore?

Donating to the Habitat Bergen ReStore will help ensure affordable housing for numerous families and individuals over the years.

I’m so happy we donated our couch instead of throwing it away. It was practically brand new and now it can go towards supporting a great cause. It was awesome that your crew came to pick it up, I was not looking forward to hauling it out of my house on my own.

Corporate Sponsorship

Often, nonprofits have different funding sources throughout their history that may change from one year to the next. One of the greatest motivations for supporting the ReStore is it’s sustainability within the community. When you support our ReStore you are supporting a nonprofit enterprise that pays for itself, while also contributing funds to our affiliate’s building program.

Impact on Bergen County Families:

All of our donors contribute to us because they want to take action in helping their neighbors get a hand up in Bergen County. They want to see a hardworking family in their neighborhood have a decent place to live, with dignity and respect. Your contribution will build not one home, but several! Your support will help us house countless families in Bergen County who need a decent place to live. Your organization’s impact in our community will be felt immediately, and for years to come, creating a wonderful legacy for your organization’s future.

Reduce, Reuse, And Recycle:

Each year, 10.8 million tons of furniture gets dumped into landfills in the United States (Elizabeth Royte, Gas Land). Although landfills have been meticulously engineered in recent years, liquids can still be released into the ground-water, which endangers lives. The Habitat Bergen ReStore will divert useable furniture and household/construction items out of landfills in our area. You will play a part in reducing the carbon footprint in Bergen County, through your support of the ReStore.
